Union condemned rape attempt

ITANAGAR, June 17: Dibang Adi Students’ Union condemned the recent alleged rape attempt to students by a teacher at Peging Bote government secondary school, Riga East Siang District.

It also appealed to the Adi Baane Kebang and Adi Students’ Union to take up necessary step with East Siang District Administration so that the culprit gets exemplary punishment and suspension from his services.

“Baseless, untrue statement”

ITANAGAR, June 17: The  press statement regarding selection of Dobin Doke and Tamchi Kache as president and general secretary of All Arunachal Pradesh Chess Association (AAPCA) is totally baseless, untrue and fabricated,  said Hina Nabam Mavan, who claimed himself as the general secretary of the Association.

AAPCA headed by Doke in a release yesterday claimed that Mavan was removed from the post of AAPCA general secretary and All India Chess Federation also recognized the authority of Doke and Tamchi Kache as president and general secretary of the Association.

On the other hand Mavan claimed that Doke was removed from the post of president as per bye laws of the Association and Tamchi is not even the executive member of AAPCA.  Claiming that AICF has no authority to select the executives of state level chess association, he further termed the recognition of Doke and Tamchi by Federation as ‘wrong information’.

 

Free Dental Health camp

ITANAGAR, June 17: Karuna Trust conducted a free dental camp at Kaho village on June 13. The  camp is conducted as a part of series of its dental camp in its PHCs.

Similar camps were also organized at PHC’s Sangram, Wakka, Khimmiyong and Walong PHCs this month.

During the camp, extractions and restorations of the teeth were done free of cost and medication was also prescribed. Dr Eadara Srikanth, Dentist from Mysore rendered his services in these camps. Anup Sarmah, Zonal head of north east, Karuna Trust and the DC, DMO, DRCHO, CO and MO of all the PHCs extended their support in conducting these camps and to mobilize the public.

The staffs of the PHCs were also trained for diagnosing the common dental problems and its related problems.

ITANAGAR, June 17: Nyapin Sangram and Phassang Students Union strongly appealed to the local MLA of 19 Nyapin constituency to look into the overall developmental activities of the area and take up necessary step against government officers and officials who are not residing in their respective posting places.

Agri. Deptt review meet

ITANAGAR, June 17: A review workshop on watershed development, extension reforms (ATMA programme) and annual plan meeting of Agriculture department would be held at Directorate of Agriculture from June 20-22.

During the meet annual action plan for 2011-12 would be finalize.

The programme will be attended by concerned Minister, Parliamentary Secretary, Chairman, Agricultural Marketing Board, Secretary, Agriculture besides district and zonal heads of department.

 

ILP checking drive

Seppa, June  17: An ILP checking drive was carried out in and around Seppa township by Liken Koyu, Town Magistrate along with a Police team led by SI Padi Payeng.

A total of 51 ILP offenders were detained by the Executive Magistrate and Police team during the checking drive and they were produced before the court.

The court fined Rs. 1000 each to 41 ILP offenders while 10 persons were released after they produced documents. The court also directed the offenders to obtain proper ILP within 7 days.

60th Plenary of North Eastern Council

Gamlin pleads for adequate fund for development of priority sectors

ITANAGAR, June 17: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jarbom Gamlin has appealed to the  North Eastern Council (NEC) for adequate fund and institutional support  in development of  priority sectors like infrastructure, education, health, power, tourism and border areas development, agri-horticulture and water resource  in order to ensure that the vision of a self-reliant Arunachal becomes a reality.

Addressing the 60th Plenary of the North Eastern Council at New Delhi yesterday, the chief minister reaffirmed that the state Govt will continue to consider  creation of infrastructure and development of education, health, power, tourism, border areas development, agri-horticulture and water resource as its priority sectors.

Pointing out the gigantic problems of unemployment in the North East region including Arunachal Pradesh, Chief Minister emphasized on skill development of the youths in sector like hospitality and nursing industry on priority basis. He sought fund and technical assistance from NEC to enhance the skill and capacity of unemployed. “We must work collectively to find ways by which our youth can be trained and can find gainful employment. Its ramifications on the law and order scenario in the region are too obvious to be pointed out,” he added.

Welcoming the NEC proposals for setting up of a North Eastern Cultural Centre at New Delhi, Chief Minister called for adequate funding for preservation and promotion of places of historical importance in North East, particularly Arunachal Pradesh. He said a vital component of such funding should comprise capacity building of existing staff who need to be re-trained as well as a substantial component on outreach programmes and publicity.

The Chief Minister further said the introduction of the North Eastern Region Community Resource Management Project (NERCORMP) in Tirap, Changlang and Lohit is eagerly awaited by all of us. Once operationalized, the project is expected to bring about a sea change in the socio-economic development of the area.  The CM requested the Union DoNER Ministry and the NEC to take up the project in coming financial year.

While pointing out the historical achievement of the mountaineers of the state, the Chief Minister sought intervention of the NEC for early establishment of the proposed Mountaineering Institute at Dirang in West Kameng district and requested the NEC encourage and recognize the achievement of Everesters Tapi Mara, Anshu Jamsempa and Tine Mena.

The future economic rejuvenation of the State lies in cross-border trade, the chief minister said while adding that in consonance with the country’s Look East Policy, opening up of borders with China, Bhutan and Myanmar for border trade is an urgent necessity. He called upon the DoNER and   the NEC  to  play a critical role in influencing policy as well as expediting execution.

Pointing out the NEC-sanctioned scheme  for basic amenities at Koloriang during the last financial year,  the  Chief Minister pleaded for more NEC fund for implementation of drinking water supply projects and for completion of ongoing projects. The State Government is thankful to the NEC for considering its proposal for upgradation of forest rest houses at important tourist destinations in the state. With tourism poised as a major revenue player in the state’s economic growth, this will go a long way in ameliorating the problem of lack of tourism infrastructure and will boost tourist inflow in the State, he said.

The Chief minister said the Council’s initiative of earmarking an amount of Rs 10.00 crores for assistance for implementation of Small Hydro-Power projects is indeed laudable. Since most of the North-East has very difficult terrain and is yet to be connected by a high-voltage grid, Small Hydels are the ideal choice for taking power connectivity to the remotest of villages. We need to think of more such innovative projects that will, in turn, better the lives of people in our villages, he said.

A Project Monitoring and Implementation Software Module has recently been developed by the Planning Department of Arunachal Pradesh, which we will also use to monitor and upload the progress of NEC projects, the CM informed and requested the other North East states to adopt the module.

Chief Minister, however, said that the projects sanctioned by NEC are not in the order of priority list sent by the State Govt. Gamlin requested the Council Secretariat to try and sanction projects only in the order projected by the state Govt. He further called upon the NEC  to consider  the scheme for ‘Up gradation of Road from Jagun Tinali (Assam) – Namchik – Miao to Vijaynagar’  which will provide connectivity to the remotely located Circle HQ of Vijaynagar on priority under  for the 12th Plan.

Highlighting the poor communication set up in Arunachal Pradesh, Chief Minister said there is a grave need for improvement of tele-communication services. Mere expansion of coverage area and increase in subscriber base is rendered meaningless if the service itself is unreliable, he said. Gamlin hoped that the scheme for “Augmentation, Creation and Management of intra-district SDHQ-DHQ OFC network” will be implemented at the earliest to mitigate the tele-communication constraints in the region, particularly Arunachal Pradesh.

Requesting the authorities for early completion of the Bogibeel Bridge  project over river Brahmaputra for the benefit of the people of Arunachal Pradesh and North Assam, the CM further  requested the NEC  for early completion of Tezu airport project which will cater to the needs of six districts.

On financial position of the NEC, CM said that the sanctioning power of the NEC Secretariat must be increased to at least ` 25 crores.  He requested the Planning Commission to allocate maximum resources possible to the NEC during 2011-12 to enable it to complete as many of the ongoing projects as possible so that spilling over of schemes from 11th to 12th Five Year Plan can be reduced to the extent possible.

“I would also like to acknowledge the support extended to us by the Government of India during the entire period of the crisis and the tragic accident where we lost our leader, former Chief Minister Dorjee Khanduji. We will remain grateful to you for your solidarity and consolation. The task before us in Arunachal Pradesh today is not an easy one. Khandu had set in motion a tremendous pace of development in our State. It now becomes our foremost responsibility to ensure that this development trajectory maintains its path and the dream of making Arunachal and its people prosperous, self-reliant and happy is made real,” the chief minister added.

Participating in the deliberations on the second day of the plenary, Finance and Planning minister Kalikho Pul today raised concern over the delay in the construction of the green field airport at Itanagar.

He urged upon the Council to expedite the process considering the absence of air connectivity. On the issue of the railway line from Harmutty to Naharlagun, he said that not only is it important to complete the project by the 2012 timeline, but it must also be ensured that the Rangiya-Rangapara-Harmutty conversion into broad gauge must be completed by the same date for the new line to be of any use, as our link point is at Harmutty. He also called for re-opening of the rail line to Bhalukpong as it was a vital link in the PDS network.

 

Governor emphasizes on opening of border points, air connectivity and rail link

 

Arunachal Pradesh Governor J J Singh  has emphasized on opening of border points, air connectivity, railway link, promotion of tourism   and development of power sector in   the state.

Addressing the 60th Plenary of North Eastern Council at New Delhi on June 16, the Governor said India  India has to look East through the North–East. While reiterating state’s request on developing the historic Stilwell Road and opening Border Trade across Pangsau pass to provide a viable and important land-link between North-East India and South-East Asia, Governor said, “by opening the road, we would definitely be providing a valuable route for a boost to the economy of the North-Eastern States and for movement of people, tourists in particular. Once the entire stretch of the road is usable, its formal opening is inevitable and is bound to happen sooner or later. The opening of this road can transform the economy of the under-developed and insurgency-affected North Eastern region of the country by making it a production hub for feeding the Myanmarese and western Chinese markets.

Further highlighting the importance of the land route, Gen Singh said, currently, most imports from Myanmar and China are being channelled through the Kolkata dock, which is a much longer sea-route than the Stilwell Road. The opening of this road would reduce transportation costs between China and India by more than 30%,  he said.

Welcoming the token provision of Rs. 20.00 lakhs kept in the Annual Plan 2011-12 of the Council under ‘Support to Look East Policy Initiatives – Border Trade’ for conducting the study on Border Trade through Research and Information Systems, New Delhi, Governor suggested that some other local-level initiatives must also be incorporated under this head by increasing the amount indicated.

Pleading the case of air connectivity to the state, Governor expressed gratitude to Union DoNER Minister BK Handique for getting the frequency of flights between Guwahati and Lilabari increased to 6 days a week.  He also suggested the Council to explore the possibility of starting a direct Boeing flight between New Delhi and Lilabari till such time as a new airport comes up at Itanagar.

Requesting the Ministry of Railways to start broad-gauging of Rangia-Rangapara stretch within this financial year itself, so that works are completed by March 2012, Governor pointed that a more than 100 km stretch of the Harmuti-Rangia link (i.e. Rangia-Rangapara stretch) is still on meter gauge and there is no near-term possibility of the conversion of the same to broad gauge. In the absence of broad gauging of this stretch, it will have to use meter-gauge coaches which run at an average speed of about 30 km/ hour on more than half of the Guwahati-Itanagar route. Again passengers will have to get down and change trains midway where the route specifications change. This change of trains will discourage movement of goods. It will thus take more than 10 hours to reach Guwahati from Itanagar and this will make this link, practically of no use to anyone. He also urged upon the ministry to ensure adequate railway rakes as it non-availability has impact on public distribution system.

Highlighting on the tourism prospective of the state, Gen Singh said, the number of tourists visiting Arunachal Pradesh is far below the optimal potential. This, he reasoned, is both because of lack of available infrastructure and also the administrative arrangements in place. Stating that the tourism development in the State is in nascent stage, Governor called upon the Council to provide both financial and technical support to the State in the development of its tourist potential and also to approve projects for adventure tourism, golf tourism, heli-tourism, eco-tourism and rural tourism etc.

Imploring the Union Minister for DoNER for sanctioning the 132 KV Trans-Arunachal Power Grid on the highest priority, Governor pointed, the NER Vision 2020 document has rightly recognized the importance of ‘Power’ as the engine of growth for the North-East, and in future, 90% of the total power to be generated from within the NE region would come from Arunachal Pradesh. However, it is unfortunate that my State, which is supposed to be self-sufficient in power, and also feed the entire country in the years to come, is a net importer of power from Assam at present. This is mainly because of lack of an internal grid which prevents the evacuation of surplus power from one part of the State to another.

Emphasizing on giving health as a priority area of the Council, Gen Singh advocated for enhancing the provision from Rs. 5.00 crores to Rs. 20.00 crores. Further, purchase of sophisticated high-end medical equipment should be allowed under NEC projects in the health sector, he added.

Governor also requested the council to take up the funding of a National Institute of Mountaineering cum Adventure Sports at Dirang in West Kameng District of Arunachal Pradesh in phases by ear-marking atleast Rs. 10.00 crores in this financial year.

Gen Singh also touched on poor telecom connectivity in the North Eastern region.

Proposing on making 3rd party monitoring mandatory for all NEC projects and an amount of 0.5% of the total project amount may be utilized by the concerned State for this purpose, Gen Singh said, my state has been a pioneer in the field of 3rd party monitoring of projects. Institutionalization of 3rd party monitoring systems has brought us rich dividends in the form of timely completion of works maintaining the highest standards of quality. We have extended the ambit of 3rd party monitoring to SPA and BADP projects as well. My State has already set up a State Innovation Council on the lines of National Innovation Council under the chairmanship of Sam Pitroda, he further stated.

Extending a personal thank to NEC Secretary for sanctioning the project for ‘Renovation of 17 existing Forest Guest Houses’, Gen Singh said, this is an exemplary project and will be a brilliant demonstration of how minimal resources can be used to leverage maximum benefit out of existing infrastructure which is lying dysfunctional.

In his concluding remark, reiterating that all the member States must continue to be guided by the NER Vision 2020 document to chalk out programs for the development of the region, Governor said, our annual plans and five-year plans must always be aimed at realizing the goals we set for ourselves when we adopted this document collectively.

In his address, while remembering Late Dorjee Khandu, Governor said, in his sad demise, we have all lost a very close friend, an ever-helping individual, a leader of men and a father-figure for the State.

 

Arunachal pays last tribute to

Dorjee Khandu

TAWANG June 17: “Jha Jhipchijirgu” (49th Day puja) of former Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu, who died in a tragic circumstance on April 30 last along with four others, was performed here at Lemberdung.

Religiously known as “Bhumchoi” and offering of “Tsok”, this puja is basically performed to liberate the wandering soul to the path of righteousness. It is also believed, through Bhumchoi performed on the 49th day of one’s death, could steer the soul towards a higher rebirth in life form or to heaven.

In the Lamaist Buddhism, offering of “Tsok” is traditionally referred to as the gathering of ‘delightful substances’, refers to the food and drink that is offered to the Mandala of deities and the  soul. After chanting of mantras appeasing the deities and the departed the soul, the Tsok is distributed by the practitioner to the gathering. Tsok is a profound method of purification, a profound way of gaining realisations and covers the entire path to enlightenment from beginning to end.

As many as 500 lamas from Ganden Namgyal Lhatse Monastery (Tawang Monastery) performed the religious rituals amidst family members of the Late Chief Minister and their well wishers.

People who had travelled all the way from various parts of the state and the country paid their last respect to the departed soul and offered their prayers. Some Bhutanese nationals were also seen in the puja venue who had travelled all the way across the border to pay their respectful adieu to the great personality.

Pema Khandu, son of Late Chief Minister and presently Minister Tourism and WRD along with his family members extended their sincere gratitude to the people for expressing their love and respect to late Khandu. He also made special mention to all the media fraternity for their constant support in the hour of crisis and expressed his profound gratitude to them.

Parliamentary Secretary Chief Minister’s office Tsewang Dhondhup, Dirang MLA Phurpa Tsering, Tawang SP and DC in charge along with various head of offices and public leaders, villagers and office staff participated in the Puja. The 49th day religious rituals of former Chief Minister late Dorjee Khandu was also performed today at Siddharth vihar by Buddhist Cultural Society,Itanagar.

 This ritual is performed for the soul to take the final farewell from amongst its near and dear ones  to find  refuge either at a womb to attain rebirth in life or go to heaven as per his karma. Today is the day when people can pay their last tribute to the departed soul, so people from all walks of life along with offerings thronged at the Gonpa to pay their last respects and prayed for the beloved soul to rest in peace.

The ritual started with a prayer,  the sound of drums resonated in the background as if it were singing an elegy. The prayer flag (tharcho) containing OM MANE PADME HUNG which means to purify all sins was hoisted near the Stupa. Later, the prayer continued with lighting of lamp and offering of TSOKHAR which was later distributed to the people.

The same ritual was also performed at the private residence and CM’s bunglow. Besides, the Security Staff of CM office distributed fruits to the indoor patients of R.K. Mission Hospital on the day. DIPR

 

44th Dree football Tournament

Zamra, Diibo Sports Club  storm into semis

ZIRO, Jun 17: Zamra Club (ZC) and Diibo Sports Club (DSC) stormed into the semifinals of the 44th Dree Football Tournament at Subansiri Stadium, Hapoli here today.

Zamra Club pipped Hari Sports Club 1-0 in the first quarterfinals while Diibo Sports Club survived some tense moment to register 4-3 (6-5) tie-breaker win over Puchi Putii Club in the second quarterfinals of the day.

Zamra took the lead in 4th minutes into the match through a goal from Bullo Lailyang which later turned out to be the match winner.

In the second quarterfinals, Diibo Sports Club was leading 2-1 till the first half with two goals from Koj Chotu.

Stung by the goals, PPC launched counter attack and reduced the margin to 2-1 by scoring a goal in 39th minute by Nada Tado.

The excitement of the match reached its peak when Chiging Pullo, the captain of PPC restored parity in 59th minutes (2-2).

The winner was decided through tie-breaker after both the teams failed to break the deadlock in regulation and extra time.

The third quarterfinal match will be played between  Sojang Lapang Sports Club and  All Hija Sports Association  tomorrow at 1 pm while Laji Bogia Sports Club will clash with Youngest Club Hari in fourth quarterfinals at 2.30 pm.

 

Capital Complex Dree Football tourney from today

ITANAGAR, Jun 17: Dree Football Tournament -2011 organised by Capital Complex Dree Festival Committee will begin at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Naharlagun tomorrow.

The tournament is being organized in two categories of Junior and Senior.

All the 10 participating teams in the Junior category are divided into four groups with winners of each group advancing to the semifinals.

Group ‘A’ comprises O.A. Foundation FC Ita, TTTICACA and Service XI, Group B  consists of AASTEE Club, Puchi Putii FC and Jonex FC while Group ‘C’ has Miichi United FC. X.JNV Yachuli.  Puri Symbiosis College FC and E Sector FC, Nlg are in Group ‘D’.

The four teams participating in Senior category are Next Generation Club, Khongkhung, Hero’s Club and Itanagar FC.

The inaugural match will be played between OA Foundation and TTTICACA at 2.30 pm while Next Generation Club (NGC) and Khongkhung will lock horns with each other in the second match of the day at 3.40 pm.

Semifinals of both the categories will be held on June 26 while the finals will be played on June 28.

 

Forums decry ‘conspiracy’ to frame RTI activist, demand arrest of all accused

ITANAGAR, June 17: The 9th Chayangtajo Intellectual Forum expressed serious concern over criminal conspiracy hatched against Payi Gyadi, the Chairman Sango Lamte Foundation and an RTI activist by planting grenades and pistol in his car.

He was fighting against the illegal appointment  in Govt job through forged documents, it said.

The Forum, in an  emergency meeting here today, resolved to pursue the issue persistently till the arrest of the main culprit behind the conspiracy. The Forum appealed to the investigating agency to maintain professionalism and book all the culprits who are still at large.

It demanded the Chief Minister, President APCC and AICC for immediate removal of Minister Atum Welly, who was allegedly involved in illegal appointment, from the council of Ministers  to ensure free and fair investigation into the case.

It further demanded the administration not to enlarge the accused on bail till the investigation is completed and all culprits are booked and punished as per law.

The Forum, meanwhile, expresses its appreciation to the Itanagar police for timely arrest of the accused persons and further appealed to the law enforcing agent to investigate the case without prejudice and pressure from any quarters including politicians in order to unearth the truth.

Kameng Citizen’s Forum (KCF) also condemned the criminal conspiracy hatched against RTI activist Gyadi.

Lauding the City SP Chukhu Apa and his team for arresting three persons involved in the case, KCF demanded the authority not to grant any bail plea to the accused for smooth investigation into the case.  KCF appealed to the State Government to hand over the case to either National Investigating Agency (NIA) or Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to unearth the real conspirators who were behind the plan.

It further demanded Minister Atum Welly and Chief Information Commissioner YD Thongchi to step down from their respective posts by owning moral responsibly over the issue of alleged illegal appointments of their relatives in lucrative Govt posts.

 

BJP denounces charges of  APCC

ITANAGAR, June 17:  The Bharatiya Janata Party Arunachal Pradesh   today denounces and strongly repudiated the APCC’s ‘wild accusation’ on party of hoodwinking the countrymen on corruption and black money issues.

Reacting to the press statement of the APCC which appeared in local media on May 14, the BJP said that democracy is not purely a political affair or merely a political concept. Persons who elected their leaders today are capable of thinking deeper meaning of democracy. A democratic attitude requires appreciation, it said.

 Pointing out the midnight  barbaric incident at Ramleela ground, Delhi, the Party said the incident exposed the attitude of the Congress which will not tolerate anything that goes against its vested interest to perpetuate a monstrous regime of corruption.  The party wanted to know why Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev was allowed to stage a campaign against corruption at Ramleela ground if it was illegal?  The manner in which the Congress led UPA government used “brute force” on Satyagrahees  is a blot on our democracy, the party said.

The state BJP said, the party will support the organizations or individuals  who raise the issues of national importance and  public interests from any corner of the country with open mind and will not tolerate abuse of the constitution of the land.  The Party said that Congress  should find out ways and means to address the problems and grievances raised at different forums instead of misleading the people  by dragging BJP and RSS to controversy.

It is the Congress which disgraced the democracy and Parliament and also discredited and subverted democratic process in the country time and again by using police force, the BJP said.

The APCC should rather tell their government to aggressively pursue with the Centre on the Brahmaputra dam in China issue for which the UPA government earlier denied any such constructions taking place in China. The other part of the International Border – China which claimed whole of Arunachal Pradesh as their territory is  again coming from land to water which needs be taken up with the Centre aggressively at least when Assam Government headed by its Chief minister, Tarun Gogoi camping in New Delhi, the BJP said in a release.

 

Centre promises to introduce Delhi-Lilabari direct air service

New Delhi, June 17:  Union Minister for Civil Aviation Valayar Ravi has promised to introduce direct flight from New Delhi to Lilabari for the convenience of people of Arunachal Pradesh.

The minister gave the assurance while responding to a memorandum submitted to him by Arunachal Pradesh Minister for PWD and UD Nabam Tuki here today. He also assured to look into the request for converting the Naharlagun Heliport to short take-off and landing (STOL) airport, according to a communique.

Tuki, who met the Union Civil Aviation Minister today,  in his memorandum requested the Union Minister to convert the Naharlagun heliport into STOL port and  introduce  direct flights from the National Capital to Lilabari via Guwahati since the timing of present Kolkotta-Guwahati-Lilabari air service by Indian Airlines was not suitable for the people of Arunachal Pradesh.

 

Lazu remains cut off from rest of the world

 

KHONSA, June 17: Lazu, one of the remote circle headquarters bordering Myanmar about 48 Km from the district headquarters here is still cut off from rest of the country due to road blockade since May 20 last.

The Khonsa-Lazu road the life-line of Lazu administrative circle has been blocked by a massive landslide near Pongkong village triggered by torrential rain over last few months. All efforts of the BRTF to restore communication have become futile as the entire hillock is sinking.  

Due to the road blockade the essential commodities in Lazu have exhausted and the people are facing untold sufferings. As there is no hope of reopening the road, the district administration and department of Food  and Civil Supplies had requested the state Government to resort to airlifting of essential items for Lazu.

The CO, Lazu L.N Naam and DF&CSO Amit Bengia are in touch with concerned authorities to expedite airlifting of essential ration commodities. Local MLA Y. Matey while expressing his concern over the road blockade has assured of all kind of help from his side. DIPRO

 

Anini JNV  needs Govt attention: Union

ROING, Jun 17: The All Idu Mishmi Students Union (AIMSU) has condemned the attitude of those responsible government authorities and elected representatives for the deplorable state of centrally sponsored school Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) Anini.

 “Such insincerity in discharging the roles and responsibilities,” the union said “shows lack of interest, which otherwise JNV Anini could have become the ‘Mecca’ of education in the district.”

The community student’s apex body appreciated the media in highlighting the issues of remote and far flung region like Anini, miles away from power centres and the glare of those in power and authority.

At the same time it also urged for respect towards print Medias in the state. The union said it believes the press is the most potent weapon in a democracy, which helps the views and opinions of the common people to penetrate across the thick walls of bureaucracy, into the thick skin of the policy makers.

 The promise of education minister Bosiram Siram to provide appropriate subject teachers has failed to materialize, the union noted. “Even the visit of the Director of School Education in the month of January last has failed to empower any future scope of revival. In such a grim scenario, a proper and healthy functioning JNV in Anini can right away help redress half of the education related issues within the district.”

“Because it is only in today’s schools and classrooms, future of a society is moulded and shaped”, said AIMSU President Malo Linggi. “Today’s schools and classrooms are a mother’s wombs for the birth of tomorrow’s diplomats, leaders, bureaucrats, businessmen, on whose shoulder lie’s the responsibility of taking a country towards the vibrant pinnacle of its glory”.

 The union felt the Vidyalaya management committee under the leadership of the DC and DDSE, Anini has failed to monitor, cross check and give reminders to the other concerned parties responsible for the construction of the institution. It also demanded an enquiry be constituted to look into the supply of sub standard iron bed at the exorbitant rate of Rs 5500.

 The prolong absence of Deputy Director (DD) of District Urban Development Agency (DUDA) from the district headquarters, the union said, was also a major cause for irritation and slow progress of the infrastructural development.

The student body strongly condemned the DD for not adorning the role of executing as well supervisory body in ensuring that the contractor completes the construction work of school building within the stipulated time frame. It also appealed the contractor, MM project to be sincere and responsible while executing the work on JNV school building.

Appealing to the elected representatives, public, prominent and common people to cooperate with the staffs and teachers of the school, JNV in a remote location like Anini, the union said that is a boon. And therefore the sacrifice of the teachers coming from different parts of the country should, the student body said should be properly and adequately acknowledged through helpful means and not as uncivilized barbarians with thirst and lust only for money.

On its part, the union general secretary, Rajiv Mihu said that AIMSU being a students’ body, the core issue of the union has always been education. “We will fight tooth and nail to see that JNV Anini gets ‘what is due to it’ and that it becomes a ‘Mecca’ of education in the district of Dibang Valley.”

 

Farmers training prog at FTC Kherem

ITANAGAR, June 17: A District level farmers training programme was conducted at FTC Kherem by ATMA, Lohit Dist in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Lohit on June 15. A total of 33 farmers and farm women attended the programme. In the inaugural session Chow M. Chowlu, PD ATMA Lohit briefed about the importance of cultivation of HYV of rice in a scientific manner for increasing yield.

Debasish Borah, Subject Matter Specialist (Agronomy), KVK Lohit dist. trained the farmers about “Scientific cultivation practices if rice” including detailed information on HYV of rice, INM, Manuring and fertilization, nursery management, intercultural practices and improved machineries for rice cultivation. He also taught  the farmers about the method of soil sample collection for laboratory analysis.

Madhumita Sonowal Bora, Subject Matter Specialist (Plant Protection), KVK Lohit Dist trained the farmers about the Integrated Pest and Disease Management (IPM & IDM) of rice. M. N. Bori, ADO Chongkham briefed about production of Vermicompost and Ginger production technology.

C. P. Sharma, PTO, FTC Kherem requested the farmers to increase the use of organics for cultivation. Farmers are shown the soil test laboratory established at FTC Kherem by Z. Prasad. The training concluded with vote of thanks from Z. Prasad of FTC Kherem.

 

PMGSY scheme brings cheer to the people

AALO,  June 17: Rumgong ZPM Tapang Jerang urged the department concerned for taking up of PMGSY scheme  for Molom to Yosing village on priority basis.

Addressing a gathering in thanks giving function held at community hall Mopung for the successful and timely completion of 18 Km pt of Patum Rumgong road to Molom stage-I PMGSY project which was executed by PA holder M/s Tamchi Kusuk, Itanagar under the RWD Aalo Division and firm M/S Bumi-Kioyi Enterprise, Jerang lauded both the contractor and the department for their relentless efforts in completing the project in time.

Expressing satisfaction over work culture of the department, the local HGB, GBs, publics and road committee president Tapang Tali acknowledged the RWD Aalo for their public service and urged them to take up black topping works in the same line.

ABC team meet Everester Anshu

BOMDILA, June 17: A 23 members Motor Bike Expedition team led by Jose Nabam, President of Arunachal Bullet Club (ABC) met Anshu Jamsenpa yesterday at Bomdila. Anshu who is mother of two recently created a world record in mountaineering. She interacted and shared her experiences with the ABC team members who had come from different parts of the state including Khonsa and Tuting.

Anshu expressed her gratitude to ABC  members who had earlier given  her a rousing reception at Hollongi Check gate on 5th June and took a Bike Rally from Hollongi to  Itanagar to welcome her.

The Motor Bike Expedition team members were later felicitated by Arunachal Mountaineering & Adventure Sports Association (AMASA). Presenting a silk scarf ‘Khada’ to each of the member, President, AMASA Tsering Wange said that ABC was doing a yeoman service by creating awareness about adventure sports and eco tourism among the Arunachalee masses. He also extended his gratitude to all the members who in spite of rainy weather and  bad roads made it to Tawang to pay homage to the great son of the soil late Dorjee Khandu.

Sangey Lhamu, Secretary, AMASA  wished the ABC members safe biking back home as ‘Royal Bullets’. There after they made their way towards Bhalukpong enroute to Itanagar while scores of onlookers cheered them.

 

Regular supply of PDS item in East Kameng demanded

ITANAGAR, June 17: The people of East Kameng District are facing near starvation due to acute shortage of ration items.

Describing the hardship faced by the people of the District due to non-availability of ration items, the East Kameng unit of All Nyishi Youth Association demanded the authority to ensure regular supply of such items in the district. ANYA criticized the carriage contractors of the district for failing to lift PDS items from FCI godowns on time which has created the artificial food crisis.

The Association further appealed to the power department to ensure regular supply of electricity in the district. It said that disruption in power supply to the district has severely affected the daily life of common people as well as the functioning of hospitals, various Govt offices, educational institutions, business establishments.

 

Blood is thicker than water

Dear Editor,

Two weeks back one of our brothers Toi Sora of village Taba Sora, West Siang district was electrocuted. The effect of electrocution was too severe that both of his hands began to shrink. First he was admitted at Hospital Aalo, later he was evacuated to R K Mission Hospital, Itanagar.

Reaching Itanagar we began to face numerous problems as the state Capital is completely new for us. In the meantime, doctors advised to evacuate him to Guwahati for emergency treatment as his condition was very critical. In the hours of helplessness, I met the president of Bogum Ao Foundation Tony Koyu  who came out to be kind hearted. On his request, the members of Bogum clan extended financial contribution for treatment of our brother. We are really blessed by clan members. I shall remain ever grateful to Tony Koyu and clan members for their generous contribution.   I have now realized that blood is thicker than water and also understand the role of such welfare society.

The problem is everywhere in the state

Dear Editor,

Through your esteemed daily I would like to appreciate the 7 days ultimatum given by the D.A.S.U (Dibang Adi Student Union) to the BSNL for the improvement of its service in the Dibang district of our state on Wednesday. It is indeed regrettable to utter that not only in the mentioned district but in the other districts also like Upper Subansiri, East Kameng, West Siang, Kurung Kumey etc. the service provided by the BSNL is not up to the mark. Every time we dial the number we get only one common answer that is the “the call cannot be completed at the moment” or “all the channels are currently busy, please try after sometime”. These words although sweet to hear but of course more embarrassing and after sometimes  comes every time but the call never goes. The only thing we can do is ‘message’  ‘message’ and message instead of making a call. But the more concerned is that many times we came across the issue of the bad service by the BSNL in the daily paper but they fail to mitigate the problem facing by the people of our state. It  is sad to state that the authority is very much irresponsible, how come they just neglect the grievance so easily.

Thus in this  context I appeal to the authority concerned to look into the matter so seriously otherwise the authority should know the step taken up by the D.A.S.U. is indication that the war has began against them and if the same problem persist in the concerned area and the other areas of our state then we will too start democratic movement until  they are replaced by the other   private limited service providers like Airtel, Aircel, Vodafone etc. so, lest they are thrown out should act immediately.
